1. Hypothesis Framework
Hypothesis #1: Problem Existence
🔴 Critical"We believe that Operations and HR leaders at mid-market firms will actively seek tools to quantify meeting spend if they are under pressure to cut operational costs. We will know this is true when we see 60%+ of interviewed leaders cite meeting efficiency as a top-3 budget concern."
Risk: Leaders may view meetings as "culture" rather than "cost," making it hard to cut.
Hypothesis #2: Solution Fit (Privacy)
🔴 Critical"We believe that companies will accept role-based salary estimates if we provide aggregate reporting without exposing individual pay. We will know this is true when we see 80%+ of test users opt-in to the tool without uploading a specific salary sheet."
Risk: Estimates might be deemed "inaccurate" by finance teams, rendering data useless.
Hypothesis #3: Willingness to Pay
🔴 Critical"We believe that Department Heads will pay $8/user/month if we demonstrate a 10% reduction in meeting time. We will know this is true when we see 5+ pre-orders or LOIs signed at the $8 price point."
Risk: Seen as a "nice to have" analytics tool rather than a "must have" utility.
Hypothesis #4: Behavior Change
🟡 High"We believe that Employees will shorten meetings or decline invites if they see a dollar amount attached to the calendar invite. We will know this is true when we see 15% reduction in average meeting duration after 4 weeks."
Risk: Notification blindness; users ignore the cost data.
Hypothesis #5: Channel (Viral Hook)
🟢 Medium"We believe that Individual Contributors will share a "Weekly Meeting Cost" report to social media/Slack if it highlights their personal productivity struggle. We will know this is true when we see 20% of free users utilize the "Share" feature."
Risk: Users fear sharing implies they are unproductive.
Hypothesis #6: Integration Friction
🟢 Medium"We believe that Admins will install a 3rd-party OAuth app if we promise immediate value without IT involvement. We will know this is true when we see 50% of landing page signups complete the Google Auth flow."
Risk: Corporate security policies block calendar API access.
2. Experiment Catalog
Deep Dive: Experiment #3 (Wizard of Oz Manual Report)
Rationale: This is the highest value experiment. If we can manually deliver value that users pay for, the automation is merely an implementation detail.
Setup
- Recruit 10 users from LinkedIn/IndieHackers.
- Request anonymized .ics export of last 30 days.
- Use Excel + Salary assumptions to calculate cost.
- Create a "Executive Summary" PDF using a template.
- Email PDF + link to Calendly for "debrief".
Key Metrics
- Delivery Time: < 24 hours.
- Surprise Factor: "I didn't realize it was that high."
- Actionable: "I am going to cancel meeting X."
- WTP: Ask for credit card to secure next month's report.

6. Pivot Triggers & Contingencies
Trigger: "Big Brother" Resistance
Signal: Users refuse to connect calendars due to privacy fears or HR blocks the tool.
Pivot: Shift to "Team Self-Service" model where individual users opt-in rather than top-down admin deployment. Focus on individual productivity rather than organizational surveillance.
Trigger: Low Willingness to Pay
Signal: Users love the report but won't pay >$2/user/month.
Pivot: Freemium model with "One-Time Audit" upsell. Or pivot to selling the data/analytics to VCs (portfolio company benchmarking) instead of the companies themselves.
Trigger: No Behavior Change
Signal: Users see the cost but meeting duration/attendance doesn't drop.
Pivot: Pivot from "Analytics" to "Governance." Build features that *enforce* limits (e.g., auto-decline meetings over budget) rather than just showing data.
Trigger: Integration Complexity
Signal: Unable to reliably map attendees to costs due to org chart complexity.
Pivot: Simplify to "Meeting Hour Calculator" (pure time tracking) rather than dollar cost, or target smaller startups where org mapping is trivial.
